#1

Our daughter's name is Grace. It was our hope that she would grow to embody every sense of that word, "grace". In our minds, grace is a state of being, a gentle, but firm manner of approaching life that stems from being confident and approachable, wise and naively optimistic, grateful and hungry all at once.

As its a new year, and my first in having another living soul depending completely on me, I wanted to share 2013 things I have learned to be grateful for through my Grace.

#1 - Having so very much to lose.

I was asked the other day, as a new mom, what I saw as the biggest drawback to motherhood. Now you might think its the lack of sleep or free time, not to mention the sagging body parts, stretch marks, spit-up stains, etc., but those aspects only occurred to me secondarily. My gut answered faster than my brain had time to resolve "I've never had so much to lose".I realized when it came out of my mouth that to the woman asking me who is not a mother, it might have sounded like an insult, but it was pure truth. In all my life, I have never had so much to lose, and that's something to be grateful for.
